Marvin Ridge won the boys’ and girls’ N.C. High School Athletic Association 3A state championships for the second year in a row Saturday at the JDL Fast Track in Winston-Salem.
The Mavericks boys won easily. The Marvin Ridge girls won by five points over Raleigh Cardinal Gibbons.
In 4A, Hope Mills South View won the boys team title among 48 teams. Winston-Salem Parkland won its second straight 4A girls state title in a 43-team field.
In the 3A boys’ race, Marvin Ridge scored 96 points with Asheville second with 60 points. Weddington was third.
Marvin Ridge’s Christopher Garrick jumped 6-11 in the high jump, breaking a six-year-old record. In 3A girls, Marvin Ridge had 67 points, Cardinal Gibbons 62.
Marvin Ridge got individual girls’ state championships from Ngozi Frances Obuseh (shot put) and Alexa King (1600 meters).
