Gray was northbound on Eastway heading toward North Tryon Street when she changed lanes and hit the van, according to police. She was not hurt.
The impact hurled the van across the center double-yellow dividing line and head-on into Mcfarland's southbound car, police said. A pickup truck also hit Mcfarland's car, according to police.
Everyone else had minor injuries, police said.
While the toddler's child seat was installed properly, the boy was not restrained in the seat, according to police.
The wreck happened shortly after 7:30 a.m. Police closed Eastway Drive between North Tryon Street and The Plaza for several hours to investigate the crash.
