RALEIGH — North Carolina's unemployment rate increased slightly in June to 6 percent — the state's highest level since December 2003.
The Employment Security Commission of North Carolina said Friday the rise made June the sixth consecutive month to see an increase in unemployment.

Employment decreased by 4,571 workers last month, to roughly to 4.29 million. In the past year, unemployment in North Carolina has increased by 57,940 people.
