Weddington Community Church hosted “Color Your World Green” at Weddington High School last Friday evening.
Sponsored by Earthfare, Lifeworks and REI, it was a fun outdoor event to raise awareness about recycling and conservation.
Corina Patterson, the executive pastor's wife and volunteer at the green event, said they hoped to educate the community about “creation care.”
“Other states are used to green living but we are just becoming educated about it here in the Charlotte area. We want to reach out to the community not just churchgoers,” she said.

Upon arrival, patrons were encouraged to register for door prizes. Some of the items: a knockout rose from Golden Leaf Nursery in Waxhaw, teas from Earthfare and gift certificates.
Surrounding Harris Teeters in Union County donated 200 reusable fabric shopping bags that were given to all participants with recipes inside for green cleaning products using vinegar and baking soda.
Food and snow cones were for sale, and an inflatable obstacle course was available for children to run and jump in. A challenge broke out on the climbing wall between Blake Bouldin and Josh Adams, both master climbers.
Weddington Community Church holds its services at the high school on Sunday mornings.
The church advertises “Color Your World Green” and other events on New Life 91.9 radio. Coming the third weekend in September, the church will host an artworks display with partitions set up around campus holding various designs and handiwork. In December will be outdoor movies on the lawn.
