“The Dark Knight” is blowing up box-office records. In addition to the cool gadgets and intense action scenes, the film has some memorable dialogue. Not surprisingly, most of it comes from Heath Ledger's delightfully creepy Joker. Here, we recap some of the best lines you might have missed in the fast-paced thriller.
THE JOKER: Why so serious?
THE JOKER: See, I'm not a monster. … I'm just ahead of the curve.
BATMAN (Christian Bale): Why do you wanna kill me?
THE JOKER: Kill you? I don't wanna kill you. You complete me.
BATMAN: Not everyone's as ugly as you are.
THE JOKER: That's just sad. You can't rely on anybody these days.
LUCIUS FOX (Morgan Freeman): Let me get this straight. You think that your client, one of the wealthiest, most powerful men in the world, is secretly a vigilante who spends his nights beating criminals to a pulp with his bare hands? And your plan is to blackmail this person? Good luck.
THE JOKER: I believe whatever doesn't kill you simply makes you … stranger.
LT. JAMES GORDON (Gary Oldman): Because he's the hero Gotham deserves, but not the one it needs right now. And so we'll hunt him, because he can take it. Because he's not a hero. He's a silent guardian, a watchful protector – a dark knight.
LT. JAMES GORDON: Where is Harvey?
THE JOKER: What's the time?
LT. JAMES GORDON: What does that have to do with anything?
THE JOKER: Well, depending on the time he might be one place … or several.
THE JOKER: Do you wanna know how I got these scars?
