As two new elementary schools in western Union County get the finishing touches to be ready on opening day, their leaders are confident they'll be ready.
Stallings Elementary will welcome about 620 students, easing crowding at Hemby Bridge and Sardis Elementary. Sun Valley Elementary will have about 600 students, relieving crowding at Shiloh.
“We're still under construction, but as far as we know things will be ready to go on Aug. 25,” said Stallings Assistant Principal Laura Gaddy. “We keep our Web site updated so parents will know what's going on.”

Sun Valley Elementary Principal Patrice Parker said, “We're right on target.” She also is encouraging parents to monitor the school's site: http://sves.ucps.k12.nc.us.
Gaddy said Stallings parents should remember that students can't be dropped off before 7:45 a.m.
She said bus information will be provided at various open houses.
The kindergarten open house is Wednesday, parents only, 6:30-7:30 p.m. Open house for grades 1-5 is Friday, 4-6 p.m.
There also will be a kindergarten open house on Aug. 29, 6:30-7:30. That's when kindergartners can meet teachers.
Parker said open house at Sun Valley Elementary for grades 1-5 will be held Wednesday, 5-7 p.m. Kindergarten parents' open house will be 10 a.m.-12:30 p.m. Thursday.
“We would like to encourage the parents that drive their children to school to please follow the traffic patterns carefully for the safety of all the students,” Parker said. “Parents that will be waiting with their students at bus stops, we would like to encourage them to be at their designated stops at least five minutes prior to their assigned time.”
