About 40 people have signed up so far to speak, eight of them in favor of the plant, Mayor Nancy Anderson said. A group called Friends of Weddington has formed to fight building the plant.
People who wish to speak can sign up at the beginning of the meeting. Each person will be given five minutes.
“We are requiring that people give facts, not opinions,” Anderson said. “You have to be able to support your statement and that is why the council decided to give more than the usual two minutes to speak.”
Those who wish to speak will be considered witnesses and will be sworn in. They will also be subject to questioning by attorneys for both sides and the town council.
Copies of any documents, maps or graphs that are referred to by the public can be entered into the record.
“I hope that everyone that wants to come can come tonight,” Anderson said.
