A 23-month-old Monroe boy was fatally struck by a tow truck driven by his mother, state troopers said.
Trever Adam Crook, who would have turned 2 next week, was killed late Friday afternoon when he ran from the driver side to the passenger side as the truck was backing into a private driveway off the Stafford Street extension, north of U.S. 74, according to the N.C. State Highway Patrol.
He was knocked down by the right front wheel and fatally struck when the truck pulled forward. Trever's father, Daniel Evan Crook, picked him up off the ground and moved him away from the truck.
The driver, Brandy Marie Crook, was not charged, according to the Highway Patrol.
The truck's owner was listed as CGS Auto of Monroe, a towing service.
Services were held Sunday, according to McEwen Funeral Home of Monroe.
