Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools may have to tap into the city bus system's fuel reserve again this week, as the district continues to miss the diesel deliveries it needs to keep 1,270 buses running.
The district won't suspend after-school activities this week, as it did last week, Associate Superintendent Guy Chamberlain said. But he said tankers were headed to Spartanburg today in hopes of getting diesel, after missing some deliveries on Friday and Monday.
The shortage began when Gulf coast refineries shut down as Hurricane Ike neared. Chamberlain says he's heard that power outages continue to delay efforts to get those refineries back to full production.
