There was the retired couple who moved from Virginia to uptown because of a mattress. There was the 40-something California couple who toured the country with a travel trailer in search of a new home and landed in Mint Hill. And there was the Utah family whose movers ran over the urn with grandma's ashes outside their new home in The Palisades.
For seven months now, I've covered newcomers to the Charlotte area. I've met lots of interesting people and reported their stories in this column. It's one of my favorite parts of the job. If you're new to the area, meaning you've been here two or three years or less, please be in touch. I'd love to meet you.
I also speak to all kinds of groups – newcomers, workplaces, volunteer or civic organizations. I'd like to introduce myself to your group, whether it's a book or card club, play group or neighborhood association.
Lastly, a big part of my job is Living Here magazine. It's an annual guide to life in the Charlotte area and it's in today's Observer. Check it out. I hope it helps you work, play and live better here in your new home.
