Nationally known author Thomas Lynch, consultant for the HBO series “Six Feet Under,” will discuss death, grief and life issues on Oct. 23 and 24 at Gardner-Webb University in Boiling Springs.
Lynch is an essayist, poet and funeral director of Lynch & Sons Funeral Home, a three-generation family business in Milford, Mich.
He's the author of the award-winning “The Undertaking: Life Studies From the Dismal Trade” and “Bodies in Motion.”
The PBS program “Frontline” will air a production of “The Undertaking” on Oct. 30.
Lynch will present a free public reading of his essays at Gardner-Webb's Blanton Auditorium on Oct. 23 at 7:30 p.m. Registration is required. After the reading, he will be at a reception and book signing from 8:45 until 9:30 p.m. There is a $10 fee.
On Oct. 24, Gardner-Webb will host Lynch for continuing education and writing workshops.
The continuing education workshop is titled “The Good Death, Good Grief and Good
Funerals” and provides three contact hours for the N.C. Board of Funeral Directors, National Board of Certified Counselors, American Psychological Association and N.C. Board of Nurse Educators. There is a $70 fee.
For the writing workshop, the requirements are the submission of work and a $50 fee.
