When Mark Peres came to Charlotte in 1999, he found a city ripe for new projects.
So, in 2003, he launched Charlotte Viewpoint, an online, non-profit magazine devoted to introducing new voices to the conversation about growth and the future of the city.
Now, seven years later, the magazine has grown to a sophisticated website that features stories, art and even poetry about the arts and civic life. In addition, the magazine hosts events and seeks to bring citizens and neighborhoods together to encourage new thinking on systemic civic issues.
Peres, who is on the faculty of Johnson & Wales University where he teaches leadership, says he’s excited about being a partner with the Observer. Articles from Charlotte Viewpoint will appear in the Observer.

"We’re privileged to be in a partnership with the Observer. It will expose our work to a broader audience and the Carolinas Public Insight Network can help us hear more citizen voices."
