Pineville

New permit: The town of Pineville now requires residents to obtain a permit the day before holding a yard sale. Four yard sales are allowed each year, one per quarter, and each requires a new permit. Yard sales are limited to one day per sale, from 7 a.m.-5 p.m., with a provisional day for rain. Permits are free and available at Pineville Town Hall, 200 Dover St. Details: 704-889-2291.

Pineville Elementary

Donations needed: Pineville Elementary will be collecting items for the Battered Women's Shelter until Dec. 17. Items needed for women are hats, gloves, scarves, umbrellas, makeup, slippers, stationary and perfume; items needed for children are hats, gloves, scarves, dolls, crayons, toy cars, play dough and craft sets. Blakeney

Holiday event: The Blakeney shopping center, at the intersection of Ardrey Kell and Rea roads, will host "Holidays at Blakeney" 4-8 p.m. Dec. 17-18. The event will include free horse and carriage rides, hot cocoa and cookies, a visit from Santa Claus. Details: www.shopblakeney.com.

Visit with Santa: Santa Claus will visit Carolina Place Mall, 11025 Carolina Place Parkway, Dec. 15-23. His hours will be 10 a.m.-1 p.m., 2 p.m.-5 p.m., and 6 p.m.-9 p.m. Monday-Friday; 9 a.m.-12:30 p.m., 1:30 p.m-4:30 p.m., 5:30 p.m.-9 p.m. Saturday; 11 a.m.-1:30 p.m., 2:30 p.m.- 5 p.m., 6 p.m.- 8 p.m. Sunday.
