K & W Cafeteria
Opening today is K & W's newest Charlotte location at 8652 Pineville Matthews Road. A ribbon cutting ceremony will take place at 10:40 a.m., with Pineville Mayor George Fowler doing the honors. Doors will officially open at 11 a.m.
K&W is known for their use of regional and local ingredients; their "Got to be N.C." program promotes buying locally. More than 100 food items are offered daily and include heart healthy options and kid's meals. Many of K&W's menu items are scratch-made from old family recipes. Catering is available, as are pies and desserts.

Portofino's is offering an April appetizer special for email clients, who can receive a free appetizer (value not to exceed $10) with any purchase of any two entrees totaling $25 or more.
Wine specials for the month include $15 a bottle or $5 a glass; choose from La Vis Pinot Grigio 2010 or Sauvignon Blanc 2009 for whites and Napolini Rosso Dei Monti 2008 or Fausto Rosso Piceno 2010 for reds.

The "Truffled" Vegetarian will be Gallery's Cooking School topic on April 16 from 10:30 a.m. - 1:30 p.m. Chef J. Kelly Morrow and Executive Sous Chef David Moore will teach participants how to prepare spring vegetables and exotic mushrooms. The cost for the session is $75 per person. Gallery is also offering a three-course, prix fixe menu for prom. The cost of $39 person includes a choice of salad, entrée and dessert plus a soft drink or iced tea. Reservations required.

Winemaker James Stewart will host a Stewart Cellars Wine Dinner on April 15. Reception begins at 7:30 p.m. with hors d'oeuvres. A five-course dinner prepared by Executive Chef Robert Kalish follows, along with pairings of Stewart Cellars wines. Cost is $110 per person, plus tax and gratuity. Reservation required.
