What better way to show off UCity’s beauty than with a running and biking event? That’s the thinking behind the first University City Duathlon happening this Saturday, April 30 on the roads and greenways of University Research Park.
Participants registering for the 5K run - 19K bike - 3K run raise funds for the W.I.S.H. (Workforce Initiative for Supportive Housing)Program, which works to get recently displaced families back into housing.
Crisis Assistance Ministry, part of the W.I.S.H. Program collaboration, needs volunteers for the event; contact Lisa Howell at email@example.com firstname.lastname@example.org for more information.
“I think this is going to be a great event to bring people to the Research Park,” says Shane Hockensmith, owner of Bike Line of Charlotte and one of the duathlon organizers along with Chris Elkins, owner of Run For Your Life – University. Plus, it’ll “let people of University City know what kind of outdoor amenities they have.” Register and read more at UniversityCityDuathlon.com.

The duathlon precedes the Green Goats and Gardens Festival, a celebration of sustainability sponsored by University City Partners. The festival happens 11 a.m.-3 p.m. in University Research Park near Harris Boulevard and I-85, and features live music, vendors, and, yes, real goats. Check out the Green Goats and Gardens website for more information.
