Thursday: If romance is still on your mind after Valentine's Day, award-winning R&B singer-songwriter Gordon Chambers delivers sultry, slow jams from his 2011 album "Sincere" at Sunset Club (1820 South Blvd.), with guest Eliz Camacho. 8 p.m. $15. 704-373-9900 or 201-579-0012 for more information.
Saturday: The Latin American Coalition hosts its third annual "A Night in Rio: The Brazilian Carnival Experience" at Neighborhood Theatre (511 E. 36th St.). A celebration of Brazilian culture, the event includes traditional dancing by Movimentos de Samba, live Samba, Brazilian Beats, and Bossa Nova from Malandro Soul and Reinaldo Brahn, authentic cuisine, and arts and crafts. Doors open at 7 p.m. with a 7:30 p.m. Samba lesson. Show begins at 8 p.m. $10-$15. 704-941-2557; www.neighborhoodtheatre.com; www.latinaamericancoalition.org.
Saturday: Phoenix (300 N. College St.) bridges club and DJ culture with traditional New Orleans sights and sounds for its "Les Bal Masque: A Mardi Gras & Club Culture Extravaganza." The party features Chicago house music inventor Jesse Saunders in the main room, carnival stilt walkers, burlesque performances, Mardi Gras showgirls, DJs Dick Tracey and Arther Brothers, live painting by artist Nic Rummel in the Doma side lounge, and a live combo playing Dixieland and ragtime on the patio. 704-375-8765; www.phoenixofcharlotte.com.
