Police: Woman shot in murder-suicide attempt

A woman was fighting for her life Monday after being shot Sunday evening in what police say was an attempted murder-suicide in northeast Charlotte.

The man who police say shot the woman died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound, according to reports. Authorities said the shooting was a case of domestic violence.

Authorities were called about 8 p.m. to the 5600 block of Sharon Pointe Road after a report of an assault with a deadly weapon. The location is off North Sharon Amity Road, between Kimmerly Glen and Milton roads.

Police found the man and the woman inside an apartment, each suffering from gunshot wounds. The woman was rushed by Medic to Carolinas Medical Center, where she remained in critical condition Monday.

The names of the victims have not been released.
