Make that seven-for-seven.
Joey Logano held off Jeff Gordon in a two-lap overtime to win Monday’s rain-delayed Duck Commander 500 at Texas Motor Speedway, his first Sprint Cup Series win of the season.
Logano became the seventh different winner in as many races this season – a feat which hasn’t occurred since 2003. The win also all-but ensures Logano will have the opportunity to make the Chase for the Cup for the second consecutive season.
Kyle Busch finished third, Brian Vickers was fourth and rookie Kyle Larson was fifth.
Monday’s race got off to a slow start as NASCAR started the event under caution in order to get the field to help dry up some remaining wet areas on the track.
The track actually went to green-flag conditions on Lap 11 and pole-winner Tony Stewart led 74 of the first 76 laps and in the process became Texas Motor Speedway’s all-time lap leader in the Cup series.
Only 13 laps into the race, Dale Earnhardt Jr. slipped into the frontstretch grass and ran up the track into the wall, which briefly set his No. 88 Chevrolet on fire. Earnhardt was not hurt.
About 30 laps into the race, Kevin Harvick, who had one of the fastest cars all weekend, fell off the pace with smoke billowing from his No. 4 Chevrolet. Harvick drove immediately to the garage. It turned out something knocked the oil pump belt off his engine.
Keselowski took over the lead from Stewart on Lap 77.
A round of green-flag pit stops began on Lap 91. Once they were completed on Lap 100, Keselowski continued to lead.
Denny Hamlin moved around Keselowski for the lead on Lap 122.
Another round of green-flag pit stops began on Lap 138. During the stops Hamlin was penalized by NASCAR for speeding on pit road. Once the green-flag stops were completed, Jeff Gordon moved into the lead on Lap 141.
At the halfway mark, Gordon continued to lead followed by Keselowski and Kyle Busch.
Kurt Busch spun in Turn 4 to bring out a caution on Lap 177. On the restart on Lap 184, Gordon led followed by Keselowski.
One lap after the restart, Keselowski moved back into the top spot.
Kurt Busch again brought out a caution on Lap 220 with a left-front tire going down. After a round of pit stops, Keselowski remained in the lead on the restart on Lap 227.
One lap after the restart, Logano moved into the lead.
Debris on the track brought out the sixth caution of the race on Lap 255. After a round of pit stops, Logano continued to lead on the restart on Lap 261, followed by Gordon and Keselowski.
With 50 laps remaining, Logano held a significant lead over Keselowski followed by Gordon, Larson and Biffle.
With 20 laps remaining, Logano maintained a solid lead over Keselowski. Biffle was in third.
Kurt Busch hit the wall again just before the white flag flew to indicate the start of the last lap. After pit stops, Gordon restarted in the lead after taking two new tires. Vickers was second and Logano third.
