Welcome to the first installment of our weekly series, "The Weekend Run + Refuel." We'll be sharing a local running route along with a suggestion of where you can brunch, lunch or grab a drink after. The weekend is a perfect time to break away from your normal running route and visit a different part of town to switch up your running scenery.
Today's run is a four miler that takes you through the eclectic and historic Plaza Midwood neighborhood, located just northeast of Uptown. There is plenty of parking on the street at the start of the run, especially on the weekends.
Here are the turn-by-turn directions:
Start on Commonwealth in front of the Common Market; run down Commonwealth (good downhill to start)
Left on Morningside; cross Central
Left on Roland and a quick right onto Truman
Truman turns into Belvedere, keep following it; then it turns into Mecklenburg by Charlotte Country Club
Left on Thurmond
Follow Thurmond up a slight hill, cross over Belvedere
Slight right onto Nassau
Things get real here with a giant hill up Nassau, but so close to the end!
Right on Hamorton
Left on the Plaza
Right on Central
Left on Thomas
Left on Commonwealth to finish in front of the Common Market
Walk over to Fern on Central to refuel after your run. They serve brunch from 10:30 a.m. - 3 p.m. The best thing about brunch at Fern? $1 vegan bloody marys!
On the food front, Fern offers a bunch menu including seasonal benedicts, fritattas, tofu scrambles, "chicken" and waffles, biscuits and gravy and more.
If you're feeling more of a lunch option, you can never go wrong with their famous Om Burger.
