Free Stuff: Celebrate the start of Panthers season

Celebrate the start of the Carolina Panthers’ 20th season. Check out the stadium’s enhancements, including new video boards, ribbon boards, on-field logo and sound system. The TopCats, PurrCussion and Black & Blue Crew will perform, and there will be interactive games, giveaways, Twist the Balloon Man, music and inflatables. At 6:30 p.m. the Panthers will get down to business with a practice, including individual drills, seven-on-seven, special teams and team periods. After a Q&A with Panthers personnel on the field, the Voltage Brothers will perform. A fireworks show will cap off the evening at 9 p.m.

Nigel Lythgoe, executive producer of “So You Think You Can Dance,” created National Dance Day to promote health and self-esteem. At Charlotte’s dance celebration, hosted by Blumenthal Performing Arts, participants can learn dance routines in a fun setting. No prior dance experience needed. Get a head start on the routine by watching the video on the Blumenthal’s website.

Echosmith, a young alt-pop group from California, is performing with the Vans Warped Tour. Before the Charlotte show at PNC Music Pavilion, they’re treating fans to a free show, presented by Kiss 95.1, at Texicali, a new restaurant at NC Music Factory. The pre-show party will also feature a free brunch and some Vans Warped Tour ticket giveaways.

On Tuesday and Thursday, bring the kids for a free flick. The theater fills up, so come early, especially if you’re bringing a big crew. No outside food or drinks are allowed. This week’s feature is “Megamind.” “Kung Fu Panda” will close out the summer series next week.

The Caped Crusader turns 75 this week. Celebrate his milestone birthday with trivia, games, giveaways and prizes. At 2 p.m. the movie “Batman Returns” will be shown.
