It's time for the Weekend Run + Refuel. Each week we provide you with a new local running route along with a suggestion on where to grab brunch or lunch after.
Today we're taking you to a section of the Little Sugar Creek Greenway that runs from the Park Road Shopping Center area to Freedom Park/East Boulevard. It's just under 4 miles round trip and ends with brunch at Flying Biscuit.
Look for future Little Sugar Creek Greenway Runs that cover different parts of the greenway, which will stretch 19 miles through Charlotte when complete.
To start your run, park along the street at the intersection of Brandywine and Westfield or park at Park Road Shopping Center (especially if you're going to take advantage of brunch at Flying Biscuit).
The greenway path starts at Westfield and Brandywine.
Follow the paved path for a little under a mile. At this point you'll have to take the street for about a half a mile. Turn left on Irby Drive and then left on Jameston Drive. You'll pick up the greenway again in Freedom Park.
Run through Freedom Park until the Greenway takes you to East Boulevard. At this point, turn around and head back, following the same directions back to your starting point.
Now it's brunch time! If you've never been to Flying Biscuit, you're in for a treat. It's located in Park Road Shopping Center.
Flying Biscuit offers a full breakfast (served all day), brunch, lunch and dinner menu full of great Southern classics with plenty of health conscious options. One of my favorite things is the Hollywood Omelet with egg whites, spinach, mushrooms and cheese. It's topped with a tomato sauce. Whatever I do, I can never resist one of their fluffy, sky-high biscuits. Note, they do offer white and whole wheat biscuits. Both are delicious!
Happy weekend and happy running!
