A woman was taken to the hospital after being impaled by a pole from a gate at a Huntersville school.
The incident happened around 9 p.m. at Hopewell High School on the 11500 block of Beatties Ford Road.
Firefighters say a woman was driving when a gust of wind blew a gate open. That gate struck the car, penetrated through the passenger headlight and firewall, into the engine, then into the driver's seat and the driver.
That driver was taken to Carolinas Medical Center with life threatening injuries, according to medical officials.
