The 7th Annual 5K, 10K and 1-Mile Fun Run for Kids Cancer takes place this weekend at 8 a.m. in Ballantyne Corporate Park. Hosted by the Isabella Santos Foundation and sponsored by the Charlotte Checkers, this race draws over 2,000 runners who come to support childhood cancer research and the fight against Neuroblastoma.
The Isabella Santos Foundation was established in 2009 to honor Isabella Santos who was diagnosed with Neuroblastoma in 2007 at the age of two. Neuroblastoma is a rare cancer that affects approximately 750 children a year with a survival rate of less than 40%. Isabella battled the disease for five years before passing away in 2012.
The foundation created in Isabella's namesake carries on to honor her memory, to support all of the children who are still fighting and to raise money for a cure.

Support the Million Dollar Mission
The Isabella Santos Foundation is on a "Million Dollar Mission" to raise $1,000,000 for the fight agains Neuroblastoma. The event has raised over $700,000 in the last six years and proceeds from Saturday's race will help get them closer to their million dollar goal. Last year's race raised over $250,000! This year's race could break the $1,000,000 mark!
1-Mile Fun Run, 5K and 10K Options
The 5K for Kids Cancer offers race options for everyone with a 1-mile fun run, 5K and 10K. This is the first year that the 10K distance has been added and it is not a double loop course! There will be plenty to do after you cross the finish line. The event features food, a live DJ, a Kids Zone and a silent auction. All race participants are encouraged to get decked out in purple. The Isabella Santos Foundations signature purple color was chosen by Isabella herself.
