Free stuff that will wake you up – free coffee!

National Coffee Day this year falls on a Monday, a day when many of us are most desperate for coffee. Krispy Kreme will give each customer a 12-ounce brewed coffee. Dunkin’ Donuts is giving away medium dark roast coffees. Stop by McDonald’s Monday or any day leading up to Monday for a free small coffee, but only during breakfast hours. And Kangaroo Express is selling coffee for a penny from 6 to 10 a.m. Some locations might not be participating so you might want to call in advance.


Uptown Pops

Enjoy a fall evening as the Charlotte Symphony Orchestra, directed by Roger Kalia, offers a diverse program ranging from Gershwin to Dvorak, Duke Ellington and more. At 9:30 p.m. watch the movie “Captain America: The Winter Soldier.” Show up as early as 5 p.m. and grab dinner during the Chow Down Uptown Food Truck Rally.


SCarowinds blood drive

Willing to pay in blood for free tickets to SCarowinds, the largest, most elaborate haunted attraction in the Charlotte area? Earn a ticket when you donate blood at a drive that runs Friday and Saturday and Oct. 3-5 at the Paladium Amphitheater at Carowinds. Donors will also receive a coupon for a free haircut from Sports Clips. Harvest Fest

Sat Noon-3 p.m. 7th Street Public Market, 224 Seventh St.

The market’s fall celebration will feature free activities for all ages, including hayrides, pumpkin painting, a pumpkin carving demonstration and corn shucking. Park above the market at Seventh Street Station and get your parking ticket validated for up to an hour and a half of parking.


Smithsonian Free Museum Day

In this nationwide event, museums offer free admission when you register and print out a ticket, which is good for you and a guest. In Charlotte, The Bechtler Museum of Modern Art, Mint Museum Randolph, Gantt Center, Carolinas Aviation Museum and Levine Museum of the New South are participating.
