A former caregiver was arrested on 65 charges involving inappropriate behavior with children that investigators say took place 20 years ago at a now-closed day care.
Joshua Maurice Young, 38, turned himself in to Statesville police on Wednesday. He was charged with 50 counts of indecent liberties with a child and 15 counts of first degree sex offense with a child.
The alleged incidents happened between 1994 and 1997 at the Church of Today Day Care on Brevard Street and involved two separate victims who were three and four-years-old at the time. The day care is no longer in business.
Police said that in June, a victim came forward and reported inappropriate activity they say occurred between 1995 and 1997. The victim was then three or four-years old.
Investigators soon found that a separate allegation was made against Young in 1999 and involved a victim who was then three-years-old. The alleged incidents took place between 1994 and 1995.
Police say that both victims reported similar incidents which occurred in the same part of the building at the Church of Today Day Care.
After turning himself in, Young was taken to the Iredell County Jail and placed under a $50,000 bond.
