You can already dress like Panthers quarterback Cam Newton. Now, you can smell like him.
Newton, whose “MADE Cam Newton” clothing line debuted at Belk last year, is the face of the new Drakkar Essence men’s cologne.
He’ll be at Belk in SouthPark Mall 6-8 p.m. Monday, when fans who buy his cologne can meet him and have their Drakkar Essence bottles autographed.
Guests will also be invited to participate in the #showyourpower social media campaign, inspired by Newton’s signature Superman pose. For every #showyourpower post, Drakkar Essence will donate $5 to the Cam Newton Foundation, a nonprofit organization that serves underprivileged youth.
If you feel like you’ve been seeing a little more of Newton lately, you have.
His new TV ad for Beats Audio shows him drenched in sweat and screaming during an intense workout. (Drakkar probably came in handy after taping.) Other marketing deals he’s landed in recent years include Gatorade, Under Armour and Carolinas Healthcare System.
His MADE Cam Newton men’s clothing line debuted at Belk in spring 2013 at 133 Belk stores and belk.com. Current fall MADE offerings run from leather wing-tip shoes to suit separates.
“It’s a huge honor to represent Drakkar Essence and be able to show the world my personality and style,” Newton said in a statement.
Drakkar (pronounced dra-CAR) comes from French fashion house Guy Laroche and is part of L’Oreal. The Essence fragrance, which came out this fall, is described as “woody ... (with) spearmint, lavender, and sage ... (and a) warm and vibrant base of dry woods, musk, and tonka bean.” (For the fragrance-challenged, those are a common ingredient: little, wrinkled seeds with a vanilla-like scent.)
