• It took 15 games and 360 game minutes this season, but Hornets power forward Marvin Williams finally took a free throw. In a further oddity, it wasn’t even a shooting foul; Clippers guard J.J. Redick grabbed Williams in a rebounding situation and the Hornets were in the bonus in the second quarter.
• It was a lot to ask of Williams to guard Blake Griffin and that showed in the fouls. Williams committed two during the first five minutes and had to sit the rest of the first quarter.
• You can change nicknames and uniforms and colors, but in Charlotte one thing never changes: Redick gets booed every touch of the ball at Time Warner Cable Arena.
• Clippers coach Doc Rivers was Al Jefferson’s first NBA coach with the Boston Celtics. Rivers on Big Al before Monday’s game:
“I don’t know if there’s a better low-post scorer in the league. If there is, there’s no more unorthodox low-post scorer in the league. I coached him and I couldn’t tell you what the hell he does. He throws up crazy shots that go in.”
