Western York County plans parades, holiday events

Western York County will offer home tours, music and other special events to highlight the 2014 holiday season.

Here’s a look at what’s planned from now until Christmas.

Christmas parades











Brattonsville tours

Historic Brattonsville will host a Southern style Christmas in the Carolina Backcountry from 3 to 8 p.m. on two Saturdays, Dec. 6 and 13.

Costumed interpreters will tell the stories of people who lived there long ago – including new settlers, plantation owners and enslaved African-Americans – who will bring to life the holiday seasons of the 18th and 19th centuries.

Hot drinks, seasonal foods, and baked goods will be sold. Brattonsville Road will be closed from 2:30 to 9 p.m. Please follow detour signs. Admission is $10 adults, $8 seniors, $5 ages 4 to 17 and free for ages 3 and younger and CHM members.

Clover home tour

The Clover Woman’s Club is sponsoring a Christmas Home Tour 2 to 6 p.m. Dec. 6. There are seven tour stops. They are:















Tickets cost $10, and are available from members and at The Palmetto House and Good Things Consignment in Clover. Proceeds go to a scholarship for a Clover High School senior. For information, call 803-222-4390.

York



Tickets are $4 in advance by Dec. 9 and $5 from Dec. 10 to 13. The cost includes an all-you-can-eat breakfast of pancakes and bacon and a 5-by-7-inch photo with Santa. Walk-ups are welcome.



The event is free and limited to the first 200 people. Children younger than 12 must be with an adult. For details, call the York Recreation Center at 803-684-3742.



York home tour

The Yorkville Historical Society will present the 32nd annual Christmas in Olde York holiday home tour from 3 to 7 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 13 and Sunday, Dec. 14. Tickets are $15. Members receive a $5 discount on each ticket.

The tour will include the homes of Stephanie and Shawn Jarrett, 127 N. Congress St.; Sharon and Bill Greeley, 206 Kings Mountain St.; Diane and Paul Hanlon, 208 Kings Mountain St.; James Ramere, 7 Hillcrest Drive; and Dale Barattini, 5 Broad St.

Other tour sites will include Divine Saviour Catholic Church, 232 Herndon Ave.; and Leake Furniture Makers, 1740 Filbert Highway. No ticket is required at Leake Furniture.

There will be a free concert at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 13 at Divine Saviour church, followed by a reception.

Tickets, which can be used on either or both days until all sites have been toured, are available at the Greater York Chamber of Commerce, 23 E. Liberty Street, York, or by calling 803-684-2590. They will no longer be sold at the homes.

Do not park along Kings Mountain Street; look for signs showing designated parking. Refreshments and restrooms are available at the York chamber.

Clover

The Greater Clover Chamber of Commerce will host an expanded weekend of festivities surrounding the town’s annual Christmas parade Dec. 5 to 7. Events include:









The evens will end with the town’s annual Christmas parade, with the theme A Rock’n Christmas, at 3 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 7.

Sharon

Christmas in Olde Sharon will be the evening of Friday, Dec. 12 in downtown Sharon, with luminarias, lights, decorations, holiday music, tours and food.

A pancake supper and bake sale will be at the Sharon Volunteer Fire Department, and Santa will arrive at 7 p.m. by fire truck to see the kids and take pictures with them.

Homes and other sites on tour include the home of Kim Stephenson, 3231 York St.; Cathy Lawton, 3913 Woodlawn St.; and Woodlawn Presbyterian Church, 3852 Woodlawn St.

The Museum of Western York County will be open with music and a bake sale, and Sharon businesses will offer food.
