Pregnant woman dies, baby survives in Gastonia crash

A pregnant woman was killed in a two-car crash on Tuesday afternoon in Gastonia, according to Gaston County EMS.

Rebecca Hodge Williams, 24, crashed into another car on County Line Road, officials say.

Williams was pronounced dead at the scene. Medical officials say CPR was performed on Williams by a trooper and a nurse, allowing oxygen to get to the baby. Williams was due on Jan. 19.

The 7-pound, 5-ounce baby was delivered through a cesarean section at Gaston Regional Hospital and then transported to Levine Children's Hospital in Charlotte. Gaston County medical officials say the baby's name is Riley Andrew Williams.
