The Landing Station in Lake Wylie looked very different Monday.
The demolition of the former Bi-Lo grocery store in Lake Wylie began about two weeks ago to make way for Publix. On Jan. 19, the center of the shopping center was completely gone as crews continued work.
Three businesses moved to accommodate Publix’s plan. Domino’s Pizza and Nationwide Insurance moved to the second phase of Anchor Shops Place that opened in the fall, and Regal Cleaners moved nearby to Shoppes at the Landing near Papa John’s.
Aim Mail Center, Echo Consignment, Panda Hut and Elite Taekwondo Academy will remain neighbors of Publix at the plaza.
Publix has said the Lake Wylie site will open by late 2015. Dwaine Stevens, media and community relations manager for Publix, said "a confirmed opening date has not been determined for this location."
In October 2013, a company spokeswoman confirmed the Lake Wylie location would be a rebuild project.
On April 14, 2014, Publix purchased The Landing Station plaza from Rivercrest Realty.
