As told by Lauren: Bryan and I met the first day of our freshman year in high school, and by the end of the year we were great friends. By our junior year of high school, we realized that our relationship was more than friendship, and we were both blessed to be able to share our college experience together at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. At UNC, reading the Daily Tar Heel on Fridays is a necessity because there’s a column on the back page called the “Kvetching Board” which consists of student comments. It’s our tradition as a couple to walk to class together and read the kvetches. The morning of the proposal Bryan met me at my apartment with the newspaper. While walking to class he was very adamant that I read the kvetches, but I was too busy eating my breakfast bar to pay attention. Bryan read through them all but then stopped, handed me the paper, and said, “Here, why don’t you read the last one?” I read the kvetch which said, “To the most wonderful girl in the world, who I have been dating for four years and six months: I would love to spend the rest of my life with you. Will you marry me?” He then got down on one knee and showed me the ring, and of course I agreed! Bryan then pointed out that his roommate had photographed the whole thing, telling me to “smile for the camera.” He told me that he had already spoken to my parents over spring break while I was out of town, a perfect gentleman. Now, whenever we tell people from school about our proposal, they say, “Wait, you’re the couple from the kvetch!” Lauren and Bryan will be married on August 4, 2012.
