Family Charm

When Holly Faranda went on a month long trip to Germany, she didn’t realize what her boyfriend Mark Vickstrom was up to. By the time Mark picked her up from the airport, he had already showed her parents the ring and asked her father for permission. He handed her a sweetly written postcard from his own trip to Boston, and then led her to the mailbox where she found a second romantic postcard. “On that postcard, he had written all the words he wanted to say but was worried he wouldn’t be able to,” says Holly. The couple shared their engagement at a brief welcome-home party and spent the rest of the night catching up.When it came to the wedding, Holly and Mark knew they wanted to showcase family traditions and heirlooms. “My mom has been making floral arrangements since her twenties, so she put together my bouquet, the men’s boutonnieres, and the women’s corsages,” she says. “I even had a piece of my mother’s dress wrapped around the bouquet.” As a finishing touch to her Modern Trousseau gown, the bride borrowed a special necklace from her mother. It was the necklace her father had given her mother while she was pregnant with Holly. At the reception, the couple used the cake cutter from her parents’ wedding and displayed pictures of their parents and grandparents on their wedding days. Holly and Mark agree that their families have always been lucky in love, and on their wedding day, the newlyweds felt equally as blessed. “From our sweetheart table we both reflected and took in our surroundings,” Holly remembers. “It was humbling to see all the people we love supporting us on our special day.”Featured Vendors
