When Jivan Davé planned his proposal to Kathryn White, number one goal was the element of surprise. One night after dinner, Jivan led her to a vacant floor in his office building, which offered a great view of downtown. As Jivan is a photographer and designer, it didn't seem unusual when he suggested stopping for a photo. In the midst of getting the shot, he proposed with the ring he'd designed from Hale's Jewelers. "It was simple, but she was completely surprised," Jivan says. For the big day, the couple planned an intimate dinner party. "Kathryn loves food and we love hosting dinner parties at home," he explains. Having been to Marshall Orr House for a rehearsal dinner before, they knew that this historic site offered character, an intimate setting, and close proximity to their Greenville home—everything they were looking for. "It has so much history that can't be recreated in something new," Jivan says. "We fell in love with how beautiful it was." With the venue down, the pair started customizing the details for an outdoor affair. Jivan designed the invitations, while Kathryn created all of the floral arrangements herself. "One of the coolest things we designed was a Guestagram," he says. "We printed about 150 of our Instagram shots so that our guests could write messages on the back." Jivan and Kathryn offered a full dinner for guests and a selection of pies from Laurenda's catering for dessert. Although Mother Nature prevented an entirely outdoor affair, moving the wedding party inside led to a better fit with the couple's original vision. "Hosting the event inside felt like having all of your closest friends and family over for dinner," Jivan says. "It was exactly what we wanted."
