It’s no secret that my (now) husband and I have attended our fair share of weddings. As a wedding attendee, or even as a member of the wedding party, you only get a slight idea of how much has gone into the big day—you don’t understand all that it takes until you’re standing in the bride’s (or groom’s) shoes. Planning can be hard and downright stressful at times. Having solid family and friends by your side is a true blessing. As a bridesmaid, I was always aware of my duties to help the bride when she asked, be available even when she didn’t ask, and to support her decisions. As a recent bride, I can tell you that sometimes it can be hard to ask for help. You don’t want to impose, especially knowing how much time your bridesmaids will be putting in along the way for your bachelorette party, showers, and wedding weekend. I can also tell you this: it will be okay if you have an almost“bridezilla” moment if a bridesmaid goes M.I.A. when you need to confirm she ordered her dress. You will be forgiven. But here’s the main thing: Just remember, on the most-special day of your life, everything will be right. It will fall into place, and your bridesmaids will be there for the excited jitters, happy tears, and millions of photos. It won’t matter if someone forgot to put your special forks out, or a shuttle is late, because you’ll be marrying the love of your life and beginning your happily ever after. Your day will be perfect; I know mine was.
