Let me start by saying I am only 27, but while I still have three years before I hit the big 30, the idea is still daunting.

I had a big picture for my life after college. By now I imagined I’d have been with a company for 3 or 4 years, have my own home, and (dare I say it) even a child. I kept hearing stories about those who had everything figured out by thirty, and as an avid social media user, I see a lot of my friends in the situation I thought I’d be in now. So the fact that things are still unstable for us makes the idea of turning 30 very intimidating. Even though 27 is a young age, I’m constantly worrying about our future and whether we’ll ever find stability.

However, when I started venting about this with others and trying to come to terms with it, I learned I wasn’t alone. I’m hearing that your thirties are when everything falls into place, and that more people are waiting until their thirties to get married and have children. Maybe I should have known this all along, but when you’re in your twenties there is a lot of pressure to have it all figured out, and almost five years after graduation, I still don’t.

Don’t get me wrong; I’m not saying I worry less about my future. In fact, I think some extra yoga classes need to come my way and soon. I have realized that times are different though, particularly with this economy, and that perhaps 30 isn’t the daunting number it’s made out to be.
