‘Bless his stilettos’

This year’s fifth annual fundraising walk for Dress for Success Charlotte debuts a new prize: The “Bless His Heart” award.

The walk, which starts with registration at 8 a.m. Saturday at Freedom Park, is a 5K for the nonprofit, which aims to help women get jobs, become economically independent and strengthen families. But that follows the Stiletto Swagger, in which a dozen or so men navigate about 100 yards (“the length of a football field,” executive director Kerry Barr O’Connor says helpfully) in heels. Serious heels, though, OK, they’re not all stilettos. (Hey, have you tried to find stilettos in these sizes?)

Most manage the challenge with some serious style. For the others, well, now there’s the Bless His Heart to vie for. (Plus, the Hornets have donated knee and elbow pads.)

Among this year’s slated participants are boutique owner Todd Albaum, Aetna’s Jarvis Leigh, Qcity Metro’s Glenn Burkins, NFL color analyst Eugene Robinson, and more, plus last year’s crowd favorite, Garrett Lucas of Adams Outdoor Advertising.
