Who may have the last pair of those Versace jeans on the planet? Those ones Cam Newton wore, that appear to be sold out everywhere except for one pair (size 34) on eBay?
He says he’s a music producer in Los Angeles; his name as an eBay seller is Robert Sylvester, but he says he goes by J Kalbi Son, and he’s Z-Weezy on Instagram (@zweezybeats).
He bought the jeans a few years ago at the Versace on Fifth Avenue in New York for about $900, he said Wednesday, and listed them on eBay about a month before Newton made them famous – a moment he didn’t see for himself.
“I had no idea that he wore them until my brother called me up (and said) ‘Yo, Cam Newton just wore the jeans you have and Twitter is going nuts!’’
That’s partly because the pants appeared to be completely sold out. (An aggregate shopping site listed the last sale price as $849, marked down from an original $975. CBS’s Charlie Rose tried to wear some on air, but had to settle for a different Versace print.)
Sylvester had listed them with a starting bid of $499.99, and noted that Rick Ross and “kardashian’s husband” had worn them. A day after Newton’s appearance, which blew up not only on Twitter but in sports and style media outlets as well, he hiked that to $999.99, then $2,100. By the last minutes of the auction timeframe, the starting bid was $3,900. (Said one Twitter wag: “I dunno, that $19.99 shipping is steep.”)
He was undaunted by getting no bids at all.
He has reposted them on eBay. They’re down to $2,999, and bidding closes at 12:56 p.m. Monday.
And if they don’t sell?
“They’re cool jeans. I’ll wear them to the strip club.”
