A feast of stylish fetes

This Thanksgiving, among the things I’m thankful for are all the stylish events going on around town. The social scene slows down for a moment this weekend as friends and family gather and perhaps do some holiday shopping. Then it heats up again next week with a new round of parties. In honor of this day of feasting, here’s a buffet of party pictures from recent chic events that will give you a taste of Charlotte’s fashion scene.

Bubble Charlotte

“Art. Music. Fashion.” at Bubble Charlotte was a collaboration among the champagne lounge; The New Gallery of Modern Art, which specializes in modern and contemporary art; women’s boutique Lipp; and men’s boutique Silverfly.

The works of artist Robert Mars, which chronicle America’s fascination with popular culture and celebrities (particularly from the 1950s and 1960s), inspired this fashion show. Mars is the subject of an exhibit on view now through Dec. 3 at the gallery. Many of the models sported painted faces, evoking the mixed-media collages Mars is known for.

Lotus

A fashion show at Lotus, hosted by founder Effie Loukas, celebrated the women’s boutique’s fourth anniversary (10th, if you count its years on East Boulevard before moving to the Metropolitan). Longtime customers and friends gathered for cocktails in the store, then headed across the street to Pisces Sushi Bar for the show.

Beads Incorporated

More celebrating happened at Beads Inc. during a party in honor of its new location at 339 Circle Avenue. The owners, sisters Christine White and Anne Todd, started their beading business as teenagers and originally operated out of their mother’s interior design studio. In 2005 they opened their first store, On A String bead shop on Providence Road. The business outgrew that location, and in the new location, which also has a new name, they’ve added more product lines, services, classes and ready-to-wear jewelry.
