Plans for the new Kimpton Tryon Park, the luxury hotel on Church Street across from Romare Bearden Park, are falling into place with the announcement for the hotel’s restaurant and rooftop lounge. The hotel is expected to open in October.

First, the restaurant will be Angeline’s, with a contemporary northern Italian menu (AKA, rustic, locally sourced and seasonal with a wood-fired cooking with dishes like roasted branzino, a 45-day dry-aged ribeye and pan-roasted duck breast with saba agrodolce).

Also planned at Angeline’s: grappa flights, Negronis, house-made limoncello and amaro cocktails.

Chef Robert Hoffman

The executive chef will be Robert Hoffman, who comes from SaltRock Southwest Kitchen at the Kimpton in Sedona, Az. Entrees will start at $22.

Meanwhile, up on the 19th floor, Charlotte will get another rooftop bar with Merchant & Trade, with cocktails, music and a small-bites menu. The food will be modern American and the beer will be local craft. Expect a 4,500-square-foot rooftop bar and lounge, with a retractable over a 1,900-square-foot lawn space and a VIP private terrace. The food and beverage director is Andrew Carlson, who’s coming from Kimpton’s Radiator in Washington. Cocktails will start at $12.

On a more practical note: Both Angeline’s and Merchant & Trade will hold job fairs on Sept. 7 from 11 a.m.-6 p.m. in the NASCAR Hall of Fame and at Sugar Creek Brewing. To apply, go to www.kimptonhotels.com/careers.
