One day after the flagship location of Dean & Deluca was closed — because of problems with the lease, according to signs posted on its doors — rumors swirled about the possible closing of two satellite locations, at Stonecrest at Piper Glen and uptown at 201 S. Tryon St.
A spokesperson for Dean & Deluca's corporate office in Kansas City said the company had not expected the Phillips Place closing and that "it's becoming a legal action."
"What happened was a surprise," said Jee Park of Magrino Public Relations in New York, which handles communications for Dean & Deluca's corporate office. While she confirmed that the Dean & Deluca Wine Bar in Phillips Place also had been closed, she refused to comment on reports that other locations were closing. Both Stonecrest and uptown locations were open Tuesday afternoon.
"We're not focusing on anything but the Phillips Place situation," she said. "That has been a surprise."
A notice from Phillips Place Partners, posted Monday on the door at the Fairview Road store, said that the store had defaulted on its lease, "failing to make monthly rent payments when due." The notice referred questions about the location to real estate company Lincoln Harris and to Regency Centers, a partner in the ownership of the upscale shopping center.
Jay Kanik, the regional property manager for Regency Centers, had indicated Monday that the store could reopen, saying, "We hope to resolve that shortly."
