One of Charlotte's most creative bartenders is leaving his post – but here's how to find him

When one of Charlotte's most influential mixologists made a quiet announcement Thursday morning that he was starting his own business, he seemed honestly surprised when we called:

Does this mean Bob Peters is leaving the Punch Room, the luxe cocktail lounge at the Ritz Carlton that has gotten national attention in publications like Garden & Gun and Southern Living?

"It's not that big a deal," he insisted. But yes, Peters is leaving the Punch Room to start his own business as a consultant, helping restaurants and clubs set up cocktail programs. His announcement on Facebook also refers to "a beverage concept of my own," but he won't yet reveal what that is, or share where he'll be consulting.

Peters says there is no ill will with the Punch Room or with the Ritz Carlton.

"It was a lot of fun," he said. It's just that he wants a new challenge, he said, and he's found that he likes helping food businesses figure out the logistics of having a good beverage program.

"I'm ready to break out and do fun, new stuff," he said. "My big goal is to put Charlotte on the map, to make Charlotte a destination for culinary programs and cocktails."

In the meantime, he does plan to do guest appearances at other bars and restaurants around Charlotte. The best way to follow along: You can either follow him on Facebook and Instagram, or on his own website, bobpeters.net.
