Try to ignore all those clouds east of Charlotte. There’s plenty of restaurant and food news swirling around here:
New chef at the Packhouse: It’s always good to add a woman to the short list of female executive chefs around here. Deedee Wilson of The Packhouse, 500 E. Morehead St., has announced that Shelby Wise is the new executive chef. Wise comes from Texas, mostly Austin, where she worked for Elm Restaurant Group, 24 Diner and the popular hot-chicken truck Tumble 22. Expect her to put out a new menu in October.
New stops for Taste of the World: CharlotteEAST, the group behind the annual Taste of the World restaurant tour in and around Central Avenue, will add a crop of new restaurants this year, according to committee member Louise Woods. On the list: Aroy Thai, Abugida Ethiopian, Crispy Banh Mi (the new location is at Shamrock and Eastway), the Colombian bakery Mi Tierra and Jyoti’s International Cuisine. This year’s tour is Oct. 3 and tickets are $49 for the before and after events and a stop at three restaurants.

Celebrate brewing: Hyde Brewing and Suffolk Punch marks one year Saturday. They’ll celebrate with a list of activities, including their first can release, brunch from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., a special dinner menu, a new cocktail and anniversary beer, games, workouts and a free kids’ concert at 11 a.m. Find the full list on the Facebook page.
