Yadkin Valley wine, local food and ICES meeting coming up

Raise a glass at Yadkin Valley wine festival

The 13th annual Yadkin Valley Wine Festival is coming up May 17, 11 a.m.-5 p.m. in Elkin Municipal Park in Elkin, about 85 miles north of Charlotte off I-77.

The festival will showcase about 30 wineries and vineyards from Surry, Yadkin and Wilkes, as well as music, crafts and food. Tickets are $20 in advance or $25 at the gate. Details and advance tickets: www.yvwf.com, or call the Yadkin Valley Chamber of Commerce, 336-526-1111.

Focus on local foods

The Cabarrus County Food Policy Council will hold a free local food event 6-8 p.m. April 29 at the Cannon School, 5801 Poplar Tent Road in Concord. The evening includes a tasting of local foods prepared by caterer Bocca Felice, a presentation by the Carolina Farm Stewardship Association, and a panel with several local food producers. ICES on the cake

N.C. ICES, the organization of cake decorators, will hold its Charlotte meeting 10 a.m.-4 p.m. May 4 at Comfort Suites, 10415 Centrum Parkway, Pineville. Workshops include advanced royal icing and buttercream flowers. $25 for members, $35 for nonmembers. Details: 704-968-3146.
