Chicken of the Sea canned tuna sold at Publix stores in four states, including North Carolina, is part of a recall by Tri-Union Seafoods.
The affected cans are 12-ounce chunk light tuna in water with the UPC code 0 4800001164 0, product code 9R5BE SCAFB and the best-by date of 11/5/17. Tri-Union says the cans may contain metal pieces from a broken piece of equipment used to process the tuna, which could be a choking hazard.
There haven’t been any injuries reported and no cans with metal pieces have been reported by consumers. Tri-Union found the issue during an equipment inspection.
In North Carolina, Publix stores in Mecklenburg, Buncombe and Wake counties got tuna from that shipment. In South Carolina, stores in Aiken, Anderson, Berkeley, Charleston, Dorchester, Greenville, Lancaster, Lexington, Pickens, Richland, Spartanburg and York counties are on the list. The cans also were sent to stores in Florida and Georgia.
If you find a can with those codes, return them to the store for a full refund, or call Tri-Union at 1-866-600-2680.
