I'll Bite

One of the hottest dining cities in the country is . . . Charlotte?

Yes, we’re all a little jaded over travel-list stories. Too often, the research is about as deep as “my friends went there and I think they ate that.”

Still, for a city as food-love starved as Charlotte, we’ll take what we can get. And what we got is No. 9 on Zagat’s “The 26 Hottest Food Cities of 2016.”

Take that, Raleigh (eating our dust at No. 19). See you, Charleston, at No. 11. We’re right behind you, Asheville, at No. 7. And mighty Atlanta? In our shadow, at No. 10. (How’s that worldly classy thing working for you?)

No, it isn’t that big a deal. Although, you know, it is a national list, and not just a Southern list, which we hardly ever make either.

It’s also nice to get singled out for restaurants like Stoke and O-Ku. Interesting, too, that they noticed how many “established industry vets looking to find the next big hospitality market” are settling here, like Laura Maniec of Corkbuzz. Also getting shout-outs: Yafo Kitchen and WP Kitchen + Bar.

And aw, look – they called us “the new destination for adventurous, landscape-driven cuisine.” Nice.
