It happened for Sunburst Trout Farms of Canton (trout caviar). It happened for Fullsteam Brewery of Durham (Cack-A-Lacky ginger pale ale). Which N.C. product will be up next?

Garden & Gun is the Charleston-based magazine with the nutty name that’s a must-read for fans of all things Southern. Every year for five years, they’ve issued an annual list of Made in the South Awards. The awards cover six categories (style, outdoors, food, drink, home and a new slot this year, crafts). The grand prize winner gets $10,000, the rest get featured in the December/January issue and get massive bragging rights.

If you make something wonderful, you should know that the official call for entries is now open. The deadline: July 15. To get the full entry rules and details, go to www.madeinthesouthawards.com.

This year’s judges include clothier Billy Reid, outdoorsman T. Edward Nickens, N.C. chef Vivian Howard, Atlanta barman Greg Best, interior designer Rachel Ashwell and Nashville musician and store owner Holly Williams.
