Who grabbed the wins at the N.C. barbecue championship?

Good ol’ Rocky Top: The Tennessee-based barbecue team won its second Grand Championship this weekend at the annual Blue Ridge BBQ & Music Festival in Tryon. The Blue Ridge is the state’s official barbecue championship.

There were plenty of N.C. winners as well. Two Old Men and a Grill from Bessemer City won second place overall and the Reserve Grand Champion slot, given to the highest-scoring N.C.-based team. Midnight Burn, a team from Hendersonville, was runnerup for Reserve Grand Champion and was the fourth-highest in overall scores.

Rocky Top also won the Sam’s Club National BBQ Tour event in Asheville last weekend. And they had won Grand Champion at Blue Ridge two years ago. There were about 80 teams competing this year in the 22nd annual Blue Ridge championship.
