Final Fire, the Got to Be NC Competition Dining Series, has finally reached the last round, and tickets go on sale Thursday at 7 p.m. for the faceoffs Oct. 28-Oct. 31 at the Renaissance North Hills in Raleigh.
Competition Dining goes on all around the state for months (yes, months!), until it finally comes down to five chefs for the final round.
Still in the battle for Charlotte: Joseph Cornett from the Flipside Cafe in Fort Mill (yes, that’s South Carolina, but we won’t quibble) and Brent Martin of the Summit Room. The matchups: Cornett vs. Ryan Conklin of Rex Healthcare in Raleigh on Oct. 28; Richard Miller of Graze in Winston-Salem vs. the Oct. 28 winner on Oct. 29; Martin vs. Todd Warden of Cliffs Valley in Greensville, S.C., on Oct. 30; and the Oct. 29 winner vs. the Oct. 30 winner on Oct. 31.
Tickets are $129, not including beverage, tax and service fee for Oct. 28, 29 and 30, and $149 (not including beverage, tax and fee) for Oct. 31. As usual for all the Competition Dining events, diners and a few pros do the judging. (I’ve done several of their events, so I can tell you: You’ll need a smartphone, and you need to make sure it’s fully charged before you go in. It’s all done by app, and plugs for charging cords can get high demand.)
