Aspiring chefs ages 8 to 18 have until Oct. 15 to enter the Coolinary Kids Challenge, part of Educate Your Palate, a fundraiser for Classroom Central, which raises money to provide school supplies for students who live in poverty.

All kids in the six-district Classroom Central area, including Charlotte-Mecklenburg, Gaston, Iredell-Statesville, Union County, Kannapolis and Lancaster, S.C., are eligible to enter. To enter, students need to answer several questions, including “Who’s your favorite celebrity chef,” and share a recipe idea with five ingredients or less. Entry forms are available at www.classroomcentral.org. Deadline for entries is Oct. 15.

Eight students will be picked to co-develop their recipe in four teams, each working with a professional chef, and then compete at the final event at Discovery Place. Tickets are $125 for the final event, 6-10 p.m. Nov. 12. Get tickets at www.classroomcentral.org. All proceeds benefit Classroom Central, which has distributed more than $45 million in school supplies to 100,000 students since it started in 2002.
