How does a nice bowl of soup sound? And how about a nice bowl to serve it in?

For soup lovers and fans of doing good while eating, this week marks the 16th annual Soup on Sunday, a fundraiser for Hospice & Palliative Care in the Charlotte region, from 11 a.m.-2 p.m. Jan. 31.

Restaurants provide the soup, potters provide the bowls. For $40, you get soups, beverages and a handmade bowl you can keep. For $30, you get just food and beverages; kids ages 7-12 can eat for $10. (Children younger than 6 eat free.)

The event is hosted by Central Piedmont Community College in the Philip Van Every Culinary Arts Center, 425 N. Kings Drive (the building with the columns at Kings and 7th Street). For details, including the 33 restaurants and the soup they’re planning to bring, go to www.souponsunday.org. Get tickets online or by calling 704-335-4312 or buy them at the door.
